The poem has no specific pattern of rhyming scheme because it is a free verse.
The line “Where the world has not been broken into fragments, By narrow domestic walls” is one of my favourites. In this line, he says the world has been divided into several fragments due to differences and disputes (which he refers to as narrow, domestic walls).

He wants people to rise above these differences.

The poem gives an awakening message to the people who not only suffered during the British rule but also due to internal communal differences and the inequalities regarding

The poet wishes to see people with the qualities mentioned in the poem to achieve freedom and live in unity.

The poem comprises several figures of speech like metaphor, personification, repetition, alliteration.

The poem is a prayer to God to lead his people to a world of freedom.

I like this poem as it spreads such a powerful and a positive message.

Appreciation 3 - Where The Mind Is Without Fear appreciation

The poem, Tagore envisions a place where people are free, where the mind is open to allow knowledge to enter and be imbibed into their roots. He wishes for a land where people understand the power of unity and are not divided on petty issues such as caste, class, and colour. He dreams of a place where people do not think twice before speaking their mind.

The imagery swings between hopeful and bleak, as Tagore pictures a bright future while facing a relatively poignant present. He believes in the existence of "clear stream of reason" but acknowledges that it currently helms into the "dreary desert sand of dead habit."

The poet speaks of what he dreams his homeland should be- a place where freedom is the most precious asset, unity is the strength driving the country, a desire for perfection keeps us all working harder, and where thought is the golden egg which will make us richer and stronger as a country.

He imagines his country free from the yoke of fear, stratification and oblivion.

Appreciation 4 - Where The Mind Is Without Fear appreciation

Appreciation of the poem - Where the Mind is Without Fear.
‘Where the Mind is Without Fear’ is a thought-provoking poem written by Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, an Indian Writer, Poet, and Philosopher.

It is a prayer to God in which Tagore addresses God as ‘’My Father’’ and asks Him to awaken his country into heaven of freedom, where there is total freedom of good thoughts, good words, and good actions. He wishes for a country where people should be free from fears, where knowledge would be free to all individuals and people from all castes and religions should be united.

The poem is written in free verse without any rhyme scheme or meter throughout the poem. Figures of speech like Repetition, Metaphor, and Personification are used to give more poetic effects. “where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection’’ - Here the poet personified ‘tireless striving’ stretching its arms to reach its goal.
The special feature of this poem is the emotion it conveys and the strong feelings of the poet for the progress of the country. It is an extremely patriotic poem written in the form of a prayer. It is a poem of hope. The poet uses many metaphors to elaborate on the evils existent in the country. It is full of positive and negative imagery.

My favourtie line is: ‘Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high’. I like this line because there is a very positive emotion in this line, showing fearlessness, dignity, and self-respect. I like this poem because it displays Tagore’s metaphoric sketch, the disparity between the present time and place, and a future where people are truly free. It is a simple, deeply sensitive, poem that carries a universal appeal of peace and harmony.
